Physics 2005

1. Preparation of
two sets of posters for publicity
A) Set 1: One
full size poster containing such contents as published on the international
designed poster with the addition of the definition of Physics. 100,000 copies
(or more) to be distributed nationwide to primary and middle schools,
universities and research institutions.
B) Set 2: 1000
sets of 50 different posters on the theme: Physics for the advancement of
civilization and progress of mankind. Topics: theoretical physics, physicists,
applications, physics education and research in China, and frontiers and
prospects. Design is carried out under the supervision of specialists. Promulgation
will be through mobile exhibitions across the country, donation, and sales.

2. “General meeting
for commemoration of the publication of Einstein’s paper ‘Special Relativity’”
held by an associative organization on 15th April 2005, in Beijing

Executive Council
of CPS, and the Awarding of the Five
Physics Prizes of

4. Commemorative
series of popular physics books
In collaboration with several publishing houses in China, a series of the best popular books that combine physics knowledge with enjoyment will be recommended to the public. To date 17 publishing houses have presented 71 volumes already or to be published. After two rounds of selection by specialists, 40 books have been chosen and made public on the website of CPS.

5. Workshop on Physics and Interdisciplinary Sciences
At the 2005 Annual Meeting of the China Association for Science and Technology (in Xinjiang), there will be a special session held to commemorate the World Year of Physics, with special emphasis on how scientists in other fields should regard Physics.

6. 2005 Fall Meeting of the Chinese Physical Society
Date: 18-20 September 2005 Place: Wuhan
Professor Martin C.E. Huber, President of the European
Physical Society will be invited to present a lecture, as well as talk about the background knowledge of the World Year of Physics and the related activities in the international physics community. A special session on the World Year of Physics will be held.

7. New Year Congratulative Letter
A New Year’s Greeting will be presented to all those working in
physics in China through the CPS website, Physics journal (issue
No.1, Jan 2005) and other media, to advertise the activity of the
World Year of Physics and encourage nationwide participation.

8. Participation in international activities
a) 19th April 2005 “Physics enlightens the world”, the activity of “light beam” transfer, for 10,000 high school students from cities all over China to take part in.
b) A series of Congratulatory Activities sponsored by the European Physical Society, including the EPS-13 “Beyond Einstein-- Physics in the 21st Century”, held July 2005, in Switzerland.
c) “World Congress on Physics and Sustainable Development organized by UNESCO, IUPAP, ICTP, etc., in conjunction with the IUPAP General Assembly Meeting
